Getting Started With RC Cars

Welcome to the exciting world of rc cars. While rc hobby in general and rc cars in particular are considered to be among the most involved sports that a person can be associated with, it certainly is no mean task to become a rc driver with skills to match up the standards set by modern day hobbyists. Be it for pure fun or be it for serious driving competitions you got to sweat a lot especially in the initial years to become skillful enough to enjoy the game.
In this article we will discuss one of the basic things that you must understand early on in your rc racing career. Here we will learn about various rc hobby types. Rc hobby is not limited to roads or tracks. It's gaining momentum in water and air as well. You might not know about this but it's a fact that you have rc submarines. That's how far reaching this hobby has become off late. We may broadly categorize rc vehicles to following three categories
Vehicles that run on land
Vehicles that run on or in water
Vehicles that fly in air
RC Hobby Vehicles that run on Land
These are by far the most popular rc hobby vehicles. Most beginners are exposed to rc cars more than any other rc vehicle. This category in itself contains a gamut of cars and trucks each of which have a very well defined functionality.
RC cars as stated earlier are very popular and with advent of modern technology have evolved to a level where they perform at unbelievable levels. There are different types of rc cars viz on road vehicles, off road vehicles, rally cars, sprint cars, on road and off road trucks and buggies etc. RC cars may be categorized on the basis of power generation. A rc car may be electric powered or it may be fuelled with nitro methane more like a conventional real life car. Some bigger rc cars are powered by gasoline further reducing the difference between it and its real life counterpart. While buying rc cars you have two options. You may go for RTRs or RC car kits. RTR refers to ready to run and as the name suggests these involve minimal building from your side. It's always better to go for this when you are brand new to the hobby. This is just about enough to give you the kick to pursue rc racing further. Kits are suitable for intermediate or advanced level drivers. Building a rc car bottom up will help you understand your car better and this will make you better prepared to face any maintenance problems in future.
Flying RC Vehicles
There are a numerous varieties of flying rc vehicles for you to choose from. Airplanes, jets, rockets, helicopters, blimps, balloons are some of the more popular ones. All these rc toys need different skill sets and its definitely going to be a test of your character to master any of them. Be it basic flight training or be it the more exhaustive 3D-flying program you will have to work hard and long enough to get the requisite experience to get into the elite league of rc flyers.
RC Vehicles Running on Water
Radio controlled boats and submarines are becoming popular with every passing day. Though as of date the rc arena is mostly controlled by cars and airplanes, the growing popularity of rc boats is all set to change the equations.
Now days manufacturers and hobby centers are promoting rc boats in a big way as they see incredible growth in this aspect of the hobby. I would suggest to get started with rc cars and then see if rc boats are really the way you want to go. However let me make it very clear that it's not a hard and fast rule at all to start with cars or trucks. You may opt for airplanes, boats or helicopters as well.
Be whatever the option you choose make sure you stick to it for some time and go through the learning curve which at times can be steep in terms of time and money.
